Oh, the weather outside is frightful

Walking through the rainy streets of London this weekend, I realised it is now official...winter is coming. We are currently still at the stage where we can be lulled into a false sense of security by a peek-a-boo sun in the sky, but the reality is....it bloomin' cold. So to keep you warm and of course stylish, I have chosen a couple of the best coats to wear this winter - perfect for a blustery walk in the park, an evening out watching the fireworks or just to keep you warm so you can continue to eat ice cream year round...no? Just me? Anyway, here are my favs...

Boyish Shape - Comptoir des Cotonniers Palette Coat, £300 (www.comptoirdescotonniers.co.uk)

This is without doubt my ultimate buy of any AW collection. The Palette coat - favourited amongst the likes of Millie Mackintosh who purchased one this month - is the perfect mix of so many top trends: tweed, oversized, masculine tailoring, leather. This gorgeous coat gives a masculine and broad shoulder, sweeping into an oversized double breasted tweed coat, with a touch of leather at the collar to give added feminine luxe. At £300 it is pricey, but will last you beyond this winter. So really, there is no reason not to right? Well that's what im going to say to my bank anyway....

Cape - Bershka Shearling Lined Parka, £59.99 (www.bershka.com)

I am a HUGE fan of the cape, but understand that it can be a little difficult to do, well anything at all to be honest whilst wearing one. Luckily the lovely people at Bershka have created this stunning cape with arms!!!! Hooray I say! Shearling lined for extra warmth, with the look of a cape/biker jacket, you really cant go wrong. And with a price tag that is under £60, you are free to shop for more winter wonderland goodies. DELIGHTFUL!

Parka - River Island Grey Faux Fur Lined Parka Jacket, £95 (www.riverisland.com)

Parkas have come on a lot since the days of Kenny's orange one... River Island for example do a fab one that has a faux fur lined hood and added zip detailing to make it prettier and more feminine...something we generally strive for, like, all the time. Also, it has a great cinched in waist which means you don't have to look frumpy or shapeless. 10 out of 10 in my book!

Duffle - New Look Mink and Brown Faux Fur Trim Hooded Duffle, £44.99 (www.newlook.com)

A little retro duffle action is never a bad thing. I love toggle detailing because I think it is a pretty addition to a plain coat. This mink and brown version from New Look is great as it has leather piping, big pockets (for our chilly mitts!) and a pretty faux fur hood. So lovely and SO CHEAP! I will take 3.

Fur - ASOS Faux Fur Coat with Cat Ears, £80 (www.asos.com)
ASOS Curly Faux Fur Coat With Cat Ears

Perhaps with cat ears, a little extreme for most of us, but none-the-less still a winter staple. If you live in London it seems this is your day to day attire, slung over jeans or leather - which by the way is actually a great way to play down fur. If that's too much for those who don't wear glitter on their face to get noticed on the tube, then keep for evening. I am not a fan of real fur, but luckily for me the fake versions are very passable and a hell of a lot cheaper!

Biker - Oasis Colour Block Leather Biker, £160 (www.oasis.com)

Colourblock Leather Biker Jacket
Bikers rarely go out of fashion, which means it is of the utmost importance that you chose the right one. Oasis have loads, from leather to floral, so head there for a wealth of choice. My fav has to be this colour block version which will go with anything. A little bit on the pricey side, but you have to ask yourself - what is that cute guy staring at you and your new jacket on the bus worth? Wait, how many colours can I get this in?

So there you have it, my top coats. To be honest I could go on and on with this - checked, shearling, pink, leather, longline, dropped waist....but I don't want to overload your fashion brains and unload your purses... Just choose well and remember that a decent coat should be a little more expensive. After all it needs to keep you warm whilst you are dragging your bestie round the shops...

Dress Like Victoria Beckham ....but by spending a lot less cash and eating a lot more burgers.

Hello!

How is everyone?? I took a little break from blogging because working is hard and I was tired when I got home...welcome to the real world right? But I am back and ready to annoy you all again. I had a wonderful birthday filled with friendship and love. I received a camera so I can take pictures of stuff I think is cool. To start with, I bought a few random pieces of clothing and will show you them!!

Top left is a really colourful tribal skirt!! It was from New Look and I believe was about £15. It looks so cute with a white sheer shirt or a champagne coloured sheer shirt tucked in!! Loads of gold jewellery and tan wedges??? Oh, go on then. The maxi skirt is a gorgeous orange and is from none other than my love - Tesco. £12 I think and the quality is wonderful. I wore this with a yellow and white polka dot top and brown ballet flats. Finally the two little things underneath are a black and (although it looks salmon) neon pink boob bandeau!! These are a god send!! I may be a little slow on the uptake, but finally I have arrived at the boob bandeau platform. I LOVE sheer shirts with bras showing underneath...so sexy. BUT, some of us have slightly larger...assets.... than others and a bra on show could be a little terrifying. So instead invest in a couple of these (£2.99 from New Look). They can also be worn under baggy vest tops and things with low armholes. So cute under white sheer shirts though. Just adds that pop of colour needed!!

Also I bought a dress from the H&M Concious Collection. It was a bargain at £14.99 and is made of Lyocell - an eco-friendly manufactured fibre. The collection is really cute so if you havent looked yet...well what are you waiting for?!!!!

I made a completely ridiculous birthday list of things I would never hope to get: Louboutins, Chloe bag, Burberry trench, Louis Vuitton luggage. You know, the staples. It made me think. Am I going to go through life wishing I owned all the designer things I want, get really depressed that I dont have them and spend a substantially amount of money...and shame...eating and crying into a Terry's Chocolate Orange?? NO!!! Well hopefully not. Instead I have been looking up high street copies of all the things I want and dear friends, I will share them with you. Here are my favourites...

Mirror Print Tee In BlackStella McCartney

(Left) Matalan £14 vs (Right) Stella McCartney £955.
Mirror print is so in right now - Stella does the cutest pair of trousers and a top to go with this as well....

Victoria, Victoria Beckham

(L) Asda £8 vs (R) Victoria, Victoria Beckham £950 (Net-A-Porter).
Another great print, with just a slight variation in price...ahem. Bring a whole new meaning to crazy cat lady.

Christian Louboutin
(L) Topshop £28 studded slippers vs (R) Louboutin (Net-A-Porter) £635.
Everyone has studded everything. Dont get left behind as the only one who doesnt go off when walking through the metal detector at the airport.

Image 4 of ASOS Cropped Trousers in Paisley PrintJil Sander

(Top) ASOS £35 vs (Bottom) Jil Sander £1,540
The ASOS trousers HAVE to be mine. I will buy them and I will love them more than anything. Like Kate Moss said - nothing tastes as good as paisley print feels...or something along those lines.

PRINTED DRESSBalalaika floral dress

(Top) Zara £39.99 vs the oh so lovely (Bottom) Mary Katrantzou £1,105
I am her greatest fan and I would give the earth to have a piece of her clothing (literally it costs the earth) BUT you can find a whole host of Mary-a-likes at Zara. So look there and try not to cry too much when you walk past the neighbour you have that grows pretty flowers that remind you of MK's SS12 collection. Sigh. You will be mine, oh yes, you will be mine.

And those are my favs at the moment. Look hard enough and you can always find a good look-alike. Its all about being a ruthless...and penniless (boo) shopper. I will bring you more as and when I discover them.

Some tidbits for today before I go:
- In A/W look out for metal toed heels and pumps a la Chanel as these are an extension of the lady-like trend happening at the moment.
- Also look out for heels with see through sides as Beyonce was pictured wearing. These were in a few years ago and I had a gorge pair from New Look, which of course I gave away thinking they would never come back into fashion again. Alas, even I make mistakes.
- Tulisa was voted FHMs sexiest woman... think of this what you may, but she has taken a lot on the chin recently....
- Preen, Jenny Packham (pretty much 50% of Kate Middleton's wardrobe is by JP) and Roksanda Illincic (Colleen Rooney was seen wearing their 'it' dress of the season to the horse racing - it was hot pink and had massive sleeves) have all either done recently or are about to launch collections for Debenhams. They join the likes of Matthew Williamson who has been there for a good while now. Remember that collections such as these sell out quickly so keep your eyes peeled. They are not as heavily advertised as collaborations with H&M etc, so you have to do your research. Or wait for me to tell you and then buy me a gift as a thank you!!
- Tomorrow is voting day!! Remember to make sure you vote for someone you care about or not at all!! Dont just guess as we could end up with some nut job!! Remember fashion is only as pretty as the prime minister's wife that wears it...

Hope you all have had a good day!

Secretly Danny from The Script is the love child of Kevin Webster from Coronation Street and Kevin Bridges.

Now many of you may be in an uproar about what I just said. Lets just have a quick look at the evidence...

Danny has some sort of mullet going on.....So did Kevin in Corrie in the early stages of his career....he blates would still have one now if all his hair hadn't receded after the trauma of Sally leaving him for the 19th time.

Danny is Irish....a mixture of Scottish and Cockney accents perhaps? I think so.

Danny lacks confidence on The Voice and looks to everyone else to see what they are doing....comedians are notoriously lacking in self confidence and Kevin Webster would be wrong to be confident about anything.

Danny has the same face as Kevin Bridges but younger and a bit more attractive.

Anyone/all of these men wish they were lesbians.

Kevin Webster PLUS...
Kevin Bridges EQUALS...

Danny O Donoghue Danny O'Donoghue attends the launch of 'The Voice UK' at Soho Hotel on February 24, 2012 in London, England.
Oh Danny what a lovely pair of Kevin dads you have. I rest my case.

In more important news it is my 23rd birthday on Saturday!!! People keep asking if I feel old. No. I'm going to be 23 when did that become old? I am just grateful I am past the age where I can be forced into partaking in the Hunger Games. Although Peeta can rub Vaseline into my head knife wound anytime he wants to. Maybe he should use less of the stuff on his hair though...just a thought. Anyway, for this wonderful birthday I should be finally getting a camera (my parents have not refused to buy me one before this, I have just not wanted one)...blogging peer pressure means I need one to show you things I am wearing and other weird stuff you will probably be confused about. So that's something to look forward to.

One of the things I feel it is my duty to show you when I have this camera is what NOT to wear on a night out. My wonderful best friend Becky turned 23 on Saturday and we danced the night away to celebrate. It was magical, couldn't have been better, no way it could've been ruined....except for the girl next to us wearing a shoe lace and nothing else. Or the girl who thought we wanted to see her thong (please note these references are not directed of any of the people we were out with). So to just clear some stuff up, don't wear it if you have to ask yourself or your friends if it is appropriate due to it being too low cut, too short, too tight or just a complete cat vomit mess... Here are my suggestions for nights out on the town looking seductive and fashionable but not causing grounds for indecent exposure.

This dress is just £12.99 and is all the shine you would ever need! Lets just tick off the trends....pleated, gold, skirt of differing lengths.... For this price you can't go wrong...and I cant see a misplaced boob in sight.

After telling you the best high street prints in my last blog...pick up this pair of scarf print shorts from Zara for £34.99 and team with heels. A fashion trend bonanza on a night out!

Sequin skirt that is reminiscent of shells....two trends one (slightly high but totes worth it) price. £175 from AllSaints.

Bali Geo Top.

For all of you, like me, who like to wear black on a night out, but wish it had a little something more to it, look no further than this top with printed sleeves from Warehouse for £38. Would look the most cute tucked into a sequin skirt or scarf shorts....oh wait!!!!

Jumpsuit from Ted Baker £179. This has cheeky cut out back detailing and is silk. I want it. It's a shame I am short and would look like a convict in it. I don't care. I will buy it anyway. Fancy convict.

Pink Pattern (Pink) Pink Monet Floral Clutch Bag | 247031979 | New LookBlack Pattern (Black) Black Monet Floral Clutch Bag | 247031909 | New Look

Who said an evening clutch had to be black or boring?? £12.99 from New Look

Multi Layered Occasion Platform HeelsTwo Tone Cut Out PlatformHeeled Chelsea Boot

Finally look no further than Matalan for your shoes (£18 for both pairs of shoes and £20 for boots). These are stocked in local stores and not just London so make sure to go take a look. If a girl is wearing the right shoes....she can walk away from the creepy boy giving her the eye.

Hope this has helped my little friends!! Please help those less fortunate than you by telling them if they look crazy and showing them my blog. If you are one of those people...you are welcome.

Night!

In Chicago they dye the river green. In Gloucester a lone man pretends to talk in an Irish accent whilst drinking Guinness...

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all you little leprechauns out there! And Happy Mother's Day for tomorrow for all you scrummy mummys.

I have come home for the weekend, to tell my mother I appreciate her, to enjoy my friend's birthday and just to generally cause havoc with a group of friends I have not seen in a long time. All in all shaping up to be a good weekend. A few more weird things for you to enjoy that happened on the tube this week:

  • People have apparently moved back in time and no longer listen to iPods. Instead a man on the tube played the guitar and I sat directly opposite (this is true) a guy practising for an opera...
  • A lot of people pray on the tube - all religions
  • People make this 'SIGGGGGHHHHH' noise when a pregnant woman/old person/the infirm etc get on the tube and they have to get up to let them sit down - oh social conventions, you lovely little blighters - the best part is when you can see their brain trying to work out whether she is pregnant or just carrying a little extra weight
  • Having to listen to loud phone calls about: 1 - why you hate your boyfriend and are breaking up with him, 2 - why you hate your job and will be leaving, 3 - how you have always thought your Spanish teacher looks like Sophia Vergara, 4 - tell your friend how you want to punch so and so in the face and will do so this weekend ... ever the classy city London
  • People eating: McDonalds, sandwiches, an ENTIRE pizza, soup!!!!!!
  • Realising foreign people don't care what they do in front of English people - most likely because they will never do anything to top the ridiculous things on the tube that we do. On Friday a HUGE, white guy was literally coughing like he had the plague. The Indian couple across the tube from him wrap scarves around their faces and start waving the air in front of them....HILARIOUS!! We are too polite to do things like draw attention to something someone else is doing, but we will cough everywhere, shout on the phone, eat obnoxious food on the tube and generally be gross... once again, way to be classy London.

COURMAYEUR OVERSIZED LEOPARD STOLE

Fashion Trend: Wild!! By this I mean fur!! Now, I am leaving you to make your own choice about whether to wear real or faux, but you can get some great fake stuff for a fraction of the price! The A/W12 catwalks saw fur: collars, stoles, jackets, cloaks, trim, handbags, boots, gloves, hats....EVERYTHING!! This was also a great theme at Cheltenham Ladies Day (remember you can still read my report of the day at www.jpfestival.com). Pick up something this season, wear it until summer then rock it, knowing you bought it cheaper this S/S, in A/W!! Remember, it's always better to be where the wild things are!! Found a GREAT website www.faux.uk.com which sells anything faux fur you could ever want and it is all SO cheap!!

Fashion Item: Wedge - It is coming to spring so we want to leave the clunky footwear of the winter behind. The only problem is, it is still a trend very much in full swing. My suggestion is that you turn to the mighty wedge!!! It is clunky, but summery! You can carry off any trend with a wedge that you are afraid to try in a full outfit, EG: Snakeskin, pastels, heavily embellished etc. Also, you can buy cute pairs from everyone from Matalan through to Mulberry so you can find one to suit your budget! Store or Label: Winter Kate by Nicole Richie - If you haven't seen any of her stuff yet, you MUST look at it before you judge. It is in no way the same creepy stuff she wore running round America with Paris Hilton in The Simple Life show. It is floaty, boho and free spirited. There was a sheer floaty jacket that she did a few years back which I am STILL kicking myself about not buying. Her pieces are the sort of stuff you see on other people and have to ask where they are from; the company is still not so well known in this country, so you can buy something and feel quite safe in the knowledge you wont see anyone else wearing it. I love the separates because you can always guarantee they will be the statement piece of your outfit. Also I think the name of the brand is the cutest thing ever...

Designer or Celebrity: Madonna - No I have not suddenly lost all ability to understand letters. What I really mean is W.E the movie that Madonna co-produced and wrote. I know it came out months ago and is not released until 4th June on DVD etc, but I have to talk about it here. For those of you who didn't go because you don't like Madge - well I can understand because I wasn't sure to begin with. But, it would be a waste if you didn't see it at some point. The acting is stupendous and the costumes are even better. It is a film about the romance between Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson and how much they had to give up to be together. Described as one of the most tragic love stories ever, there is not even a hint of cone bras or wearing too much make-up over 50... It instead ties in well with the princess/vintage trend circulating at the moment because Wallis Simpson was never known for her beauty, but always remembered for her style. Take tips from her and her future counterpart in the film, Wally, by wearing black shifts with big cream pearls, drip in diamonds and sequins and finish your ensemble with a vintage hair do. We may not all be as beautiful as the royals but Wallis proved we can all be as stylish. Also - My Week With Marilyn came out this week - fabulous costumes, fabulous storyline, Michelle Williams is to die for and Eddie Redmayne is a sight for sore eyes!! Buy it and watch it 9,000 times before W.E comes out.

Have a good weekend!!

So I am wearing houndstooth leggings, get over it

Afternoon crazy ones.

We are today back to the alphabet - like Sesame Street but with more feathers and less child labour. Before that I feel it is my duty to tell you I am starting my internship in SIX DAYS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I am the most nervous. You may remember the sheer panic that was caused by me trying to find an interview outfit and that only got seen by one person....(she liked my shoes by the way) but the first day outfit will be seen by all...seen and judged. So you have to make the choice - do you:
Option One - Wear joggers and have everyone think you are a douchebag, hate you for being apparently unfashiony and resolve to give you the nickname Pat Sharpe. Everyone thinks you must be best friends with the CEO of the company to have gotten the job because you smell like Snookie and look like MC Hammer -  but then dazzle them a little bit each day by wearing something more fashiony and having them think you have been inspired by them...
Option Two - Wear the most fabulous black dress, black blazer, skyscraper black heels and black sunglasses inside so people think you are a douchebag and hate you for being pretentious. You will get the nickname Prada as in "The Devil Wears" - but then slowly start wearing less stern clothing each day causing people to possibly thaw out and stop putting salt in your coffee...
Option Three - Wear the most fashionable outfit you have - bordering on fashion insanity - people in the street look at you and think you are cool - people in the office think you are a douchebag and hate you for trying too hard. You will get the nickname Harper (not because of the fashion magazine) but because you look like you have a stylist dressing you like the Beckham's child. The other problem with this is people will expect you to dress as fashiony everyday and that is hard to keep up therefore you have to slowly un-dazzle them each day until you are eventually dressing as option one...
Option Four - Wear moderately fashiony clothes so you can go up or down in the fashion stakes each day. Remember everyone will hate you for the first week anyway because you are interning in fashion - but at least they will call you Becky.

Snakeskin Printed Denim
French Connection
£98
Fashion Trend: Printed Denim - You have to be loving this trend - it is basically any kind of denim with any kind of print. You can work mixed prints in a whole new way by wearing printed jeans with a normal printed top. It gives a whole new life to our staple blue jeans!! Literally EVERY store has jumped on this trend so you can spend as little as £15-£20 on getting a pair. If you are adventurous go for a crazy bright pattern that will draw the attention to the jean or if you want to be a little more subdued go for a darker pair with a darker print - you really have free reign when it comes to this trend. If you want to go darker then kill two trends with one stone and get the snakeskin print jeans from French Connection - the print is difficult to see on the picture but is obvious in real life. http://www.frenchconnection.com/product/Woman+Collections+Jeans/74XA7/Snakeskin+Printed+Denim.htm

Fashion Item: Paisley Printed Anything! - I suppose this is a tiny bit of a cheat because this should be in the trend section but I thought you guys would understand. Paisley will be a fad for a while but it is BIG at the moment. It was seen all over the runways on dresses, skirts, trousers, accessories, so you really can do what you want with it. No longer is that ugly old tie your dad wore ten years ago an embarrassment! Tie it in your hair, wear it as a belt, put it on your handbag, just be seen with it!! Liberty are doing a range of the most gorgeous paisley fabrics if you are daring and skilled enough to make something for yourself http://www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/dept/fabrics_paisley. Store or Label: Porter group and by this I mean Net-A-Porter and Mr Porter. If you have never taken my advice and looked at these sites then I cannot even explain to you how magical they are. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk down Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, stroll down Miracle Mile in Chicago, totter down Madison Avenue in NYC or just flit through the stores in Paris? Well these beautiful people have made that a possibility without you ever having to leave your living room. They have stock as soon as possible after it being on the runway - my McCartney paisley pyjama suit is already on there for example... Every designer you have ever loved is on there (for men and women) from Acne through to Zac Posen. They have a huge range in price point, so don't think it is just for the rich gals and guys - they sell Hunter and J.Crew right alongside Louboutin and Chloe, so give it a look. I will warn you though it is addictive and it is best not to have your purse ANYWHERE near you if you can't afford anything.... All designers, pics and purchases from http://www.net-a-porter.com/Shop/AZDesigners

Celebrity or Designer: Paris Hilton - whether you love her or hate her (I secretly love her...shhhh) this girl knows what she is doing when it comes to getting media attention. Earlier this month she turned 31 and threw a bash for her and her closest friends - namely Wiz Khalifa, DJ Afrojack and others of the like. Paris not known for small birthday bashes hosted an 'Eyes Wide Shut' themed party where guests were invited to a modern masquerade ball. To be honest isn't pretty dresses and jewelled masks all of our fantasies! Tons of celebs, tons of booze and tons of fun no doubt. Masks were handed out on arrival and would have caused a lot of random hookups i'm sure... I just think on your birthday you should be who you want to be and wear what you want to wear - so go get it Paris!

Get your ballgowns on kids, we're going to Tesco

Good Afternoon,

Today I had a great conversation with a friend of mine about (surprise surprise) fashion. As two people who have spent some points in our lives living in London we were musing about how much freer you feel - fashion-wise - when you are there. For those of you afraid of fashion, of which there are many, you may think I am being ridiculous. The truth is though, in London confidence is the only fashion that people should follow. The conversation was started by the fact that my friend was wearing a beautiful sheer beaded top which when I asked where she purchased it from she replied with "New Look...in Oxford Street obviously". Why obviously? Perhaps we put too much emphasis on the 'London Look'.

London is no doubt the fashion capital of England and therefore you go into any store and will find a fuller, more comprehensive and often edgier range than you will anywhere else in the country. Is this because London people are naturally more fashionable than the rest of us or is it because we perceive them to be as such? I commented to my friend this morning that some of the outfits I bought whilst living in America I feel too self conscious to wear in Gloucester because I think them too 'trendy' or 'fashion forward'. The point with London is, you could wear a black bag as a dress, belt it and someone else in your office is bound to come in wearing the same thing the next day. And therein lies the freedom.

Being a fashion follower is obviously very different to a fashion leader. If you put a table filled with healthy foods in front of a person, she would eat these and lose weight. If you put a store filled with fashion forward looks in front of a person, she would choose an outfit people see as on-trend. In London the real fashion followers go into Topshop and buy a black dress but then pair it with their grandfather's belt, a watch they bought at a vintage store and a pair of shoes from a charity shop. They customize their looks; tie a belt instead of putting it on the traditional way, carry their huge bag as though it was a clutch, wear a pair of Tesco sunglasses with a Nanette Lepore dress. Then they walk out their house and people, including myself stare in awe. Knowing how to work it is the real 'London Look'.

Now I do believe you should all go out and look confident in whatever you decide to wear, but I must make a small comment.... If you have to question whether what you are wearing is appropriate for Tesco...it is not appropriate. I saw an ENTIRE family in Tesco at 8pm last week dressed in pyjamas. We are not talking the Stella McCartney pyjama pant suit either. The mother was wearing a fuchsia coloured La Senza dressing gown with slippers....In. Tesco. HAVE SOME PRIDE LADIES!!!! What I tend to do if I am concerned about what I am wearing is think 'where have I worn this before?' and then assess the current situation. If the answer is 'in bed', 'to the young farmer's ball' or 'that time I walked through London during Gay Pride and got glitter in places no human should have glitter' then I know it is not suitable to pop to Lidl.

Confidence is always the new black. Like Tim Gunn says "make it work".
